Villes-les-Bains

A study of a thermal spa town in Alsace — its mineral surfaces, the behaviour of water, and the ambiguous space between document and simulation. Photographs taken on location are layered with three-dimensional reconstructions of the site's hydrology.

The project began as a straight documentary survey. Over time, the line between record and reconstruction dissolved.

The water was modelled from measured data — temperature gradients, mineral density, flow rates. The rendered images are indistinguishable from photographs of the source.
